How to improve your home heating’s efficiency

Every year energy efficiency is continuously improving as new technologies are released. Here are some ideas for how you can improve your home’s energy efficiency.

Smart Heating Controls

Smart heating controls are able to expose where fuel is wasted, allow you to control your heating from your smartphone and some smart heating devices can also automatically adjust the thermostat by learning how you use your heating.

This results in maximum home comfort and efficiency.

A variety of brands provide heating controls, including Honeywell, Worcester Bosch and Nest.

Underfloor Heating

Underfloor heating is integrated within the floor and covers a larger area than a radiator, resulting in a more seamless room design and a more efficient heating system.

On average, underfloor heating is 25% more efficient than radiator systems. When paired with a heat pump, underfloor heating can be 40% more efficient.

As an Nu-Heat registered installer, we are able to install their underfloor heating systems.

Upgrading Your Boiler

If your boiler is over 10 years old it is unlikely to utilise condensing technology. Upgrading to a condensing boiler can result in a potential saving of up to £29 per month.*

TRVs (Thermostatic Radiator Valves)

A Thermostatic Radiator Valve (or TRV) controls the temperature of a room by changing the flow of hot water going into the radiator. The valve is self-regulating, meaning it automatically changes the inflow of water depending on the temperature of the room.

This results in less wasted energy.

Magnetic Filter

A magnetic filter collects any iron oxide that has developed within the central heating system. This prevents the build up of unwanted residue within the central heating system, helping keep the boiler efficient and increasing the lifespan of the heating system.

Installing a magnetic filter within your heating system can help decrease energy bills by up to 6% per year.

If there has been a build up of residue within the central heating system, a powerflush will remove the residue and help your central heating system return to its prime state. Additional benefits also exist such as reduced noise.
